LAHORE: Legendary Pakistani film playback and ghazal singer A. Nayyar
passed away Friday night after a prolonged illness. He was 66.
Family sources said A Nayyar died due to heart attack. The deceased left
behind three grieving daughters and a widow.
A Nayyar Debut
Born on September 17, 1950, Arthur Nayyar shot to fame after his singing
debut in 1974 film Bahisht. His first film song Yunhin din cut jayen, yuhin
shaam dhal jaye was a duet song with Rubina Badar in film Bahisht (1974), composed by A. Hameed.
A Nayyar won Nigar Award for best playback film singer in 1979, 1985, 1989 and 1991.
Nayyar and Akhlaq Ahmed remained dominant playback singers of Pakistani
film industry in the 1980s. He ran a music academy in Lahore.
President expresses sorrow
President Mamnoon Hussain Friday expressed his condolence
over the sad demise of renowned singer A Nayyar.
The president said the services of late A. Nayyar in the field of music would
be remembered for long.
He also prayed for forgiveness of the departed soul and patience for the bereaved
family to bear the loss with equanimity.
