ISLAMABAD: Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved development
projects worth Rs154 billion mainly in energy and infrastructure sectors.
here the other day with planning and development minister Ahsan Iqbal in the chair.
The meeting approved Rs23 billion for Shanghai Electric Power Plant at Thar, Rs14 billion
for the construction of 48.8 megawatt hydropower project at Lower Dir, over Rs5 billion
for Karachi Coastal Power plant and over Rs2.9 billion for 350 megawatt coal fired
power plant near Port Qasim.
Rs145 million were approved for the rehabilitation of 66 KV grid station in Orakzai
Agency, over Rs7 billion for the establishment of a sub-station of 500 KV at Chakwal,
and Rs650 million for establishment of 132 KV transmission line from Kharan Grid Station
to Mall Grid in Balochistan.
The meeting also approved Rs1.2 billion for revival of national wildlife project,
Rs3.6 billion for forestry and Rs250 million for migratory bird endowment.
In transport and communication sector, CDWP approved revised project of
improvement and construction of Jalkhad- Chilas road project worth Rs7.8 billion
and upgradation of 47 km road from RCC Konodas Bridge to Naltar Airbase Camp via
Nomal at a cost of Rs2.7 billion.
The committee approved Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Productivity Improvement
project at a cost of Rs80 billion.
In Information Technology, CDWP approved provision of seamless GSM coverage
along KKH in support of China Pakistan Economic Corridor and up-gradation of
GSM network for Gilgit Baltistan Phase-II worth Rs3.3 billion.
In addition, CDWP also approved two position papers which include construction
of 100 dams in Tehsil Dubandal, Gulistan, Killa Abdullah and Chaman area in Killa
Abdullah at a cost of Rs1.5 billion and Pehur high level canal extension in district Swabi
with Rs10 billion.
