ISLAMABAD: The change of command ceremony will take place on Tuesday (November 29)
in Rawalpindi where outgoing army chief General Raheel Sharif will formally
hand over military’s command to newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
In the ceremony at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, General
Raheel Sharif will hand General Bajwa a command stick that symbolizes
the transfer of control of Pakistan Army.
With the change of command, General Bajwa will become 16th army chief of Pakistan.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday named the new military command,
appointing Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat as the
chief of army staff and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Moreover, Bajwa will face challenges ranging from an increasingly hostile India to the
conflict in Afghanistan, growing links between militants and Islamic State
jihadists, and blowback from a Trump presidency.
He will also take control of the military’s uneasy relationship with the civilian government.
