10 terrorists killed in CTD ‘encounter’

LAHORE: At least 10 suspected terrorists were killed in an ‘encounter’ with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the wee hours of Saturday in Manawan, area of Lahore.

CTD officials said the deceased terrorists were involved in the suicide blast on Mall Road, Lahore in which 15 people, including DIG Captain (retired) Syed Ahmed Mubeen and SSP Zahid Akram Gondal had been killed

Days after the attack, CTD had arrested an alleged facilitator of Mall Road attack, identified as Anwarul Haq. CTD on the tip off Anwarul Haq detained four more terrorists from different areas in Punjab.

The officials said that the terrorists killed in Manawan encounter were affiliated with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Jammat-ul-Ahrar group.

According to the details, the CTD officials were taking the five terrorists to Manawan for recovery of explosive material and weapons when their accomplices ambushed the police party. In the retaliatory fire, 10 terrorists were killed including Anwarul Haq, Atta-ul-Rehman, Imam Shah and Irfan Khan. While other bodies were yet to be identified. Police shifted the bodies to the hospital.
