ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Saturday said that Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit will be held in Islamabad from March 1, which will discuss connecting the countries of the region through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Briefing media about ECO Summit at Foreign Office, Aziz said that connectivity for regional prosperity was theme of the ECO Summit.
He said that the draft of the ECO summit’s declaration had been prepared. He said that the forum would deliberate and decide on ways and means to augment cooperation in the areas of connectivity, trade, energy, tourism, investment, industry, economic growth, productivity, social self-aware and environment.
He said initiatives for furtherance of education and scientific linkages, cultural and people to people contacts within the ECO will also be deliberated upon during the Summit.
The Advisor said China Pakistan Economic Corridor was an outstanding example of the Summit’s theme of connectivity and it will augment the existing and planned transit and energy corridors in ECO region for greater progress and prosperity for the people of the area.
Sartaj Aziz said the theme of connectivity will help foster rail, rail, air, energy, cyber, and knowledge based connectivity.
He said most of the member states have already confirmed their participation in the Summit.
During the briefing, Pak-Afghan border had been sealed temporarily due to security situation at borders. He added that the borders crossing would be opened soon after the situation gets normal.
The Advisor rejected the India propaganda that Pakistan was facing isolation at international level. It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan had hosted third ECO summit in 1995.
