KARACHI: In a broad snub to Sindh government, the top court of the province
reinstated Allah Dino Khawaja as Inspector General of Sindh police.
Issuing contempt of court notices to Abdul Majeed Dasti who assumed charge
of acting IG, the Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned a detailed response from the provincial government and others by April 6.
The court annulled the notification regarding dismissal of AD Khawaja from his office.
A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Munib Akhter suspending Sindh government notification, issued on Saturday, has also ordered Additional IGP Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti to relinquish his charges as Acting Chief of Sindh police.
The short order came up in a petition, filed by civil rights activist Karamat Ali through his lawyer Barrister Faisal Siddiqui.
It was on Saturday evening that Sindh government had surrendered services of AD Khawaja back to the federal government.
No reason was cited for the removal of Khawaja, however, Abdul Majeed Dasti was assigned to command Sindh Police as an institutional arrangement.
The bench observed that removal of AD Khawaja was also violation of SHC order, issued in December 2016.
The bench adjourned the hearing till April 6 and issued notices to Sindh government and other respondents.
It should be mentioned here that the SHC heard a petition against the provincial government for removing Khawaja from his office.
A contempt of court petition was filed against the provincial government that removed Allah Dino Khawaja from his office despite the judicial orders in this regard.
The court took up the petition as maintainable for immediate hearing.
The petition has Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon and new Inspector General of Sindh police as respondents.
