KARACHI: PTI chairman Imran Khan on Monday backed Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar’s demand for powers from the Sindh government.
Addressing traders at the Pakistan Memon Federation, the cricketer-turned-politician backed Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar’s demand for rights to solve the problems of Karachi.
“Waseem Akhtar demands powers to solve the problems of Karachi. He is absolutely right,” said the PTI chairman. “In which part of the world are MPAs and MNAs responsible for construction of roads? This is the responsibility and task of the local government.”
Imran said that in Peshawar, the Mayor did not complain that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had not granted him rights or powers to serve the masses. Imran also spoke highly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, claiming that even AD Khawaja had recignised its excellence.
“IG Sindh AD Khawaja said he wanted a police force like the one that is present in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said to thunderous applause.
Imran demanded that IG Sindh AD Khawaja be given the same rights as that of IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
