Karachi Load Shedding Protest

KARACHI: The long and unscheduled load shedding enforced the people to take the streets as whole day protests demonstrations witnessed  in the city, however people’s anger went in vain and load shedding reign continues.

The people of Natha Khan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jouhar and Landhi came out on roads and staged protest with roads block and burnt tyres. They chanted slogans against KE and demand uninterrupted supply of electricity. Enraged protesters blocked Shahre Faisal that caused traffic mess at main thoroughfare which put people another trouble.

In Gulistan-e-Jouhar people sized the KE office as some of them barged into office  and vandalized valuables, however Rangers and police baton charge and shelled tear gas to control the situation.

In Nazimabad protest turned violent and some of the people ensued aerial firing before the K-Electric office.

Protesters blocked road at Daowd Chorangi, roundabout, and chanted slogans against KE. Despite passage of several hours demonstrators refused to end protest and blockaded of the road.

Later, dialogue between police and protesters held and they ended the protest.

The long load shedding also hit cities of Punjab- Gujranawala, Liaqatpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar- , Sindh- Hyderabad, Sukkur, Sanghar, Thatta, Sajjawal, Larkana and Noshehroferoze- and several cities of Balochistan and KPK.

However, rapidly increasing protests and their turning into violent has rang the bell of deteriorating situation in the port city. Federal and Provincial government should immediately take concrete and serious steps to resolve the issue.
