Nehal Hashmi Resignation News
KARACHI: PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi resigned from Senate on Wednesday hours after a video showing him threatening those investigating Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family of dire consequences.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also took suo motu notice of Hashmi’s remarks and summoned him in person on Thursday to appear before the bench implementing its Panama Papers verdict.
In the video, the senator had warned that those conducting the investigation will be taken to task for grilling the premier’s family.
PML-N immediately distanced itself from Hashmi’s tirades and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked him to resign.
In a handwritten letter to Chairman Raza Rabbani, Senator Hashmi said he was unable to discharge responsibilities of his office as a member of Senate of Pakistan.
“I, Nehal Hasmi, therefore, tender my resignation to you with immediate effect,” he wrote.
