ISLAMABAD: Senator Nihal Hashmi on Tuesday submitted reply in the Supreme Court on the show cause notice issued to him by the apex court for contempt proceeding over his incendiary speech threatening those investigation the Prime Minister’s son of consequences.
The apex court had given last chance to Hashmi to submit reply on the show cause notice during last hearing.
In his reply, Hashmi has taken the plea that he had made the speech once but media blown it out of proportion and made an environment against him by repeatedly showing the speech.
He added that his speech did amount to contempt of court. He added that Attorney General for Pakistan had got an FIR registered against him in Police Station Bahadurabad.
The senator said that he was a PML-N worker and a middle class person residing in a 100-yard house.
He alleged that PTI chief Imran Khan had presented his speech out of context, and other political opponents ran campaign against him.
He added that he was a patriotic Pakistani and was a practicing lawyer for the last 30 years.
The politician said that as a member of Karachi Bar he actively participated in lawyers movement and struggled for restoration of independent judiciary during Musharraf dictatorship.
He added that he braved imprisonment for rule of law and restoration of judiciary.
Hashmi had also enumerated the services and struggle of his family against British rule, adding that his grand father was hanged by the British colonial power for struggle against them.
