Nawaz, Rouhani discuss trade, bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while both leaders exchanged views over extending bilateral cooperation in trade and energy sector including for the promotion of development and prosperity, while Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has appreciated Iran’s role in strengthening ECO as founder member state.

He was talking to Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani, who met him on the sidelines of the 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Highlighting the importance of bilateral ties between the two brotherly Muslim neighbors, the Prime Minister thanked the Iranian President for his visit to Pakistan to attend the summit.

During the meeting the two leaders exchanged view on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issued of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister said that our historical bonds were firmly based in common faith and culture, economic cooperation and people to people contacts.  He emphasized the need of focus on strengthening mutual cooperation in all areas through frequent exchange of visit at various levels. He also emphasized the trade between the two countries.

Hassan Rouhani said that ECO is important forum cooperation for the region and it would be helpful for promoting connectivity for development and prosperity of the region.
