LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday
formally approved special policing powers of Punjab Rangers.
The powers to paramilitary forces have been granted under anti-terrorism act.
The decision was taken at meeting chaired by Chaudhry Nisar in Lahore.
The meeting reviewed prevailing law and order situation in the wake
of fresh wave of terrorism in the country.
The government took the step after Punjab Chief Minister agreed to
seek the help of Rangers in efforts to eradicate terrorism and extremism.
The provincial government is also seeking centre’s help in tackling terrorism.
