KARACHI: At least 18 people were killed and 40 injured after two trains collided in Karachi’s
Landhi area early Thursday morning, Business92 reported (Train Accident News).
Rescue officials also said that 18 dead bodies have been shifted to Jinnah hospital. “Many among
the injured have head injuries and some needs intensive care,” head of Jinnah hospital’s emergency
department Dr. Seemi Jamali said. Some injured were being shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital and Civil hospital.
Moreover, the incident occurred in Gaddafi Town Landhi when Zakaria Express collided with Fareed Express,
reportedly due to wrong signal given to the driver of Zakaria Express. Three bogies of Zakaria Express
were completely destroyed due to the collision.
Railway officials have initiated an initial probe about the accident. A report has also been submitted
to railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique. The report said the drivers usually do not stand trains
on the specific spot where accident occurred.
The unavailability of track due to accident has halted the normal railway operations. Officials also said
that the trains schedule would come to normalcy once the track is cleared.
