LAHORE: The Punjab Cabinet approved the Wheat Procurement Campaign 2017-18 on Tuesday.

 The approval was given in the Provincial Cabinet meeting in Lahore, which was chaired by the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

The Cabinet also approved the wheat procurement target of four million metric tons for this year, at the official rate of Rs1300 per 40kg. The target will be enhanced, if need arises.

The Punjab Cabinet also approved the export of surplus wheat stock.

The Punjab Cabinet also approved purchase of fifteen percent extra baardana (wheat bags) for this year’s wheat procurement campaign.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the distribution process of bardaana will begin from 15th of this month.

He directed to provide all possible facilities to farmers at wheat procurement centers throughout the province. He said that farmers’ rights will be protected at all cost.

Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that 2000 megawatts of electricity will be added into national grid during this summer. He said that 730 megawatts will be generated from Bhikkhi Power Plant by end of this month, while Sahiwal Coal Power Plant will start generating 600 megawatts before Ramadanul Mubarak.
